When you’re suffering with depression it can be hard to motivate yourself to do even the basics.

A quick look around your home highlights so many neglected chores that you don’t know where to start. It’s easy to end up feeling completely stuck and miserable. You don’t have the energy to sort your house out anyway, so what’s the point in even trying?

I’ve been there too, often enough to have found a few tools to help.

What Is The Bare-Minimum List?

A bare-minimum list has just three items on it, one for each of the following categories:

  • Health
  • Home
  • Enjoyment

You make the list at a time when you’re feeling relatively well so that it’s there for the days when everything just feels like too much.

Even if you do nothing else on those days, do the three things on your bare-minimum list.

It feels good to tick things off.

It’s also a way to make three tiny bits of self-care happen every day, even on the days when you really don’t think you can.
