When you’re in a period of poor mental health, it’s often difficult to know how to help yourself feel better.

Sometimes a tiny shift is enough to lift the fog for a little while, but you might not feel able to make that shift when you’re struggling. Often it’s not about an inability to do something to make yourself better, so much as an inability to think of what to do in the first place. That’s why it’s good to find ways to help your future self.

The comfort box is a tool to keep on hand for those days when depression wants to keep you glued to the sofa.

What is a comfort box?

It’s a nurture package for your future self.

It’s a collection of tools you prepare when you’re feeling well so they’re ready to use when you’re not.

Literally a box?

Yes, kind of. A box or other container is good for keeping physical items together.

It also helps to have a way to corral information into one easily accessible place. A Notion page, a spread in your bullet journal, or a section in your favourite note-taking app all work well for this.
